Student
Photo Sessions
are educational, free, hands-on photography sessions. The program
is sponsored jointly by the National Railway Historical Society
(NRHS) and Trains Magazine to teach middle school, junior high,
senior high, and undergraduate college age students photographic
techniques and the art of photography. The sessions are small
group events with both individual and group instruction by photography
experts. The sessions are designed to foster the growth of picture
taking skills of amateur photographers.

Sessions are typically held trackside
or at a railroad oriented locations such as rail museums to
provide a variety of action and still photo opportunities. Besides
providing you with with an opportunity to learn photographic techniques,
they also provide you with the opportunity to meet other students
and make friends who have similar interests in photography.

about Student Photo Sessions
Who may attend? Middle school, Junior high, senor high,
and undergraduate college age students with an interest in photography.
Why/What is the purpose of the Student Photo Sessions? The
NRHS and Trains Magazine designed this program to promote an interest
in the art of photography and in railroading, past, present and
future.
Where/When? Sessions are held around the United States.

Costs? The sessions are free.
Students are expected to provide their own camera equipment and
film, and may be required to bring a lunch. The sessions are sponsored
through the generosity of Trains Magazine, the NRHS, corporate
donors, private organizations, and individuals.

Do I have
to have an interest in trains or railroading to attend? No.
While we will use railroads as a subject, much of the information
at these seminars is applicable in general to the art of photography.
Who sponsors,
hosts, organizes, and teaches at the sessions? The
sessions are sponsored jointly by Trains Magazine and the National
Railway Historical Society. Typically they are hosted and organized
by a local organization such as a local chapter of the National
Railway Historical Society, a railway museum, or youth or artistic
focused organizations. Instructors include experienced and often
well known photographers typically with expertise in photography
of railroads.
